“We did not win a gold medal at this Olympics, but I think we are not dissatisfied with our participation,” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said today, on August 16, while hosting the athletes and coaches of Armenia’s summer Olympic Games delegation, expressing gratitude for representing Armenia at the Tokyo Olympics, as well as congratulating the medalists on their successful competition.
“Of course, the situation and atmosphere prevailing in the country have their impact on our athletes and on sports in general, but I think that in this situation we have been able to present ourselves properly. Of course, in some cases we fell just short of winning Olympic gold. But I think our athletes and our team represented the Republic of Armenia properly at the Tokyo Olympics,” the Prime Minister said.
In Pashinyan’s view, in order to have more successful competitions at the Olympics, the results of what has already happened must be summarised very quickly and preparation for the next Olympics must begin immediately.
“I think it is worthwhile for the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, together with the Olympic Committee, to form a road map from today onwards to determine our tasks ahead of the next Olympics and to implement those tasks,” the Prime Minister said, continuing: “We must take measures for the true popularisation of sports.”
