During the National Assembly-government question and answer session, RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan addressed the question that the entry of opposition MPs into Artsakh was banned by the Russian peacekeepers. Asked what measures have been taken apart from the Foreign Ministry’s statement, Ararat Mirzoyan replied: “From the moment it became known that National Assembly deputies could not enter Nagorno-Karabakh through the Lachin corridor, we have taken action. We have been in contact with both the Nagorno-Karabakh authorities and the Russian authorities at a high level. We have been assured that the entry of National Assembly deputies into Artsakh is not permitted for considerations of avoiding provocations.”
As for our position, it is clearly reflected in the Foreign Ministry’s statement. Namely, the November 9 trilateral statement provides for no restriction on movement through the Lachin corridor. And RA citizens, including National Assembly deputies, should have unimpeded access to Nagorno-Karabakh.” According to Ararat Mirzoyan, there was a clarification from the Russian side that provocations could take place. And they said that in order to keep Nagorno-Karabakh free from those provocations, their entry was not deemed expedient.
