In early August 2014, armed Islamist forces captured the city of Sinjar in northern Iraq, which was inhabited by Yazidis. According to a statement by Iraq’s Minister of Human Rights, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, at least 500 Yazidis had been killed by terrorists as of 10 August. On 15 August, Islamist terrorists killed 80 men in the small Yazidi village of Kojo and took 100 children and women captive.
