Within the framework of consultations with the leaders of a number of political forces, acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with the leader of the Prosperous Armenia party, Gagik Tsarukyan.
Regarding the meeting, the official website of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia stated that Nikol Pashinyan thanked Gagik Tsarukyan for accepting the invitation to meet and noted: “I have already published my assessment. It is that the internal political crisis was overcome as a result of the parliamentary elections. We believe that in order to solve the problems facing our country, it is necessary to take all possible measures to consolidate our best national and public potential in addressing those challenges, to unite the forces of cooperation, and to find the right formats.
Of course, the Prosperous Armenia party has had a very tangible role in the political life of the Republic of Armenia for many years. As a result of these elections, it did not overcome the threshold necessary to enter parliament, but I believe that the party continues to remain an influential force in Armenia’s internal political life. Of course, we have gone through difficult events in recent months, but we already had the opportunity to meet, albeit briefly, and discuss last year. I would like to hear your views regarding the further course of political life, what we can do so that the extra-parliamentary opposition in general, the Prosperous Armenia party in particular, and the government can be more audible to each other, because I believe that especially in this situation we need to have such formats of communication that good ideas have the opportunity to be brought to life. I do not think that good ideas are born only among those who gather more votes in parliamentary elections. And if there is a desire on the part of other representatives of the political field to share and communicate those ideas, we are ready to do everything possible so that they are placed, so to speak, on the pipeline of implementation. So, it will be very interesting to hear your positions on this issue.”
Gagik Tsarukyan declared: “Mr. Prime Minister, after the elections, just as I thanked the people, the participants of the elections, and those who voted for us, I also said that not everything is determined by a mandate; there is no mandate, so we are not with the people, we will not communicate. We stand by the people; we have discussed, participated, and kept our viewpoint and our approach informed on how to get out of this situation. Regardless of everything, whether we are in parliament or not, that does not mean that we are not by the side of our people. Anything that brings benefit, within the limits of our capabilities, we have always done, we are doing, and we will do.”
