The undertaking of such steps by Azerbaijan’s military-political leadership may lead to a further escalation of the situation, the full responsibility for the consequences of which lies with the Azerbaijani authorities. This was stated in a declaration issued by the RA MFA.
We present the declaration below:
«On July 14, a provocative advance was initiated by the Azerbaijani armed forces in the section adjacent to the Yeraskh settlement of the Republic of Armenia, as a result of which a contract serviceman of the RA, Private Samvel Alaverdyan, sustained a fatal gunshot wound from sniper fire. We express our deepest condolences and support to the family members and relatives of the fallen serviceman.
These provocative actions, which follow the penetration of Azerbaijani armed forces units into the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia — the Syunik and Gegharkunik provinces — clearly testify that official Baku is attempting to create new hotbeds of tension, undermining regional peace and security.
We strongly condemn this encroachment against the Republic of Armenia, which also constitutes a gross violation of the fundamental principles of international law.
