The Armenian Democratic Liberal Party strongly condemns the large-scale military offensive operations launched by the government of Turkey and the Turkish army on Wednesday, 9 October, along the entire border of the fraternal state of Syria.
Moreover, it is deeply disappointing that this internationally illegal and arrogant act of war by Turkey is being carried out under the irresponsible and passive diplomatic postures of the international community.
What has occurred is, first and foremost, a violation of international law against the state of Syria, an usurpation of the territorial integrity of the Syrian state, as well as a planned crime directed against the inhabitants of the border regions — the defenceless Arab people, religious and national minorities — and the beginning of a new phase of bloodshed, slaughter, atrocities and displacements.
With deep pain and concern, we also realise that our compatriots living in northern Syria will inevitably suffer from this state of war, and we therefore appeal to all our national structures, the government of the Republic of Armenia, the traditional parties, unions and the Church, to assess the gravity of the situation proportionately and to take all necessary measures, first and foremost, to prevent the danger of human loss, as well as to provide humanitarian assistance to the affected families and the community at large. We also call upon the Armenian press and society to refrain from any misleading attempt to spread disinformation.
In conclusion, by way of reminder, the ADL calls upon the entire Armenian people to remain vigilant, emphasising that in the atmosphere of the self-serving nature of international diplomacy and the bias of the press, contrary to the modern sermons of humanity and coexistence heard today from the world stage of the protection of the rights of peoples, Turkey’s inherited Ottoman character and expansionist perspectives are still present and threaten the peaceful life, well-being, development and existence of the Armenians, as well as of neighbouring states and minorities.
