Russian Federation Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in an interview with RIA Novosti, touched upon, among other things, Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.
Responding to a journalist’s question as to whether Russia hopes that Yerevan and Baku will sign a peace treaty in the coming months and whether the status of Mountainous Karabakh will be mentioned in it, Lavrov said: “It is more logical to address this question to the negotiating parties, that is, to Baku and Yerevan. It is they who set the intensity of contacts and determine the content of the future peace treaty.
Russia, which has strategic partnership and allied relations with both Azerbaijan and Armenia, will provide possible support to this process in the form and scope that our Azerbaijani and Armenian friends are interested in.”
