In Turkey’s Amasya Museum, examples of Armenian cultural heritage are on display, but their origin is consigned to silence. According to Ermenihaber.am, one user raised the alarm on the Turkish domain of Twitter, noting that the Armenian heritage is included in the Byzantine history hall and that there is not a single word about their Armenian origin. Even for the ancient Armenian Bibles displayed in the open, nowhere is it stated that they are in Armenian.
“The ‘Eastern Roman / Byzantine Empire’ section of the Amasya Museum is full of errors. Inexperience, ignorance, indifference and a deliberate tendency to conceal information are all mixed together. Here is yet another example of this country’s endless fear of the past: this statue of the Virgin Mary is claimed to belong to the times of the Eastern Roman Empire.
Under the name of the Eastern Roman Empire, statues, icons and Bible manuscripts brought from Amasya and the surrounding areas and belonging to the 19th century are presented. But there is no explanation of where they came from and by what routes they arrived there, and if there is one, it is very incomplete and fragmentary. The Bibles are in Armenian, but visitors are given no information whatsoever that they are in Armenian,” wrote a user named Pashak.
