Arkady Andreasyan, one of Armenian football’s champions, has died

Arkady Andreasyan, one of the best footballers in Armenia’s history, passed away on the night of 22 December. The news was confirmed by family members of the legendary footballer in a conversation with a NEWS.am Sport correspondent.   The former midfielder of Yerevan’s “Ararat” and the USSR national team died of heart problems. Arkady Andreasyan, one of the best footballers in Armenia’s history, passed away on the night of 22 December. The news was confirmed by family members of the legendary footballer in a conversation with a NEWS.am Sport correspondent.

 

The former midfielder of Yerevan’s “Ararat” and the USSR national team died of heart problems. He was 73 years old.

Since the summer of 2019, Arkady Andreasyan had been working at Yerevan’s “Urartu” club, where he first held the position of deputy director for development, and then was an advisor to the club’s general director.

Arkady Andreasyan, as part of the USSR national team, became a bronze medalist at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. As part of Yerevan’s “Ararat”, he was proclaimed USSR champion in 1973, and in 1973 and 1975, USSR Cup holder.

After ending his football career, Arkady Andreasyan began his coaching career in 1979. Over the years he headed “Ararat”, which under his leadership became the Armenian Cup holder (1996/97), Super Cup holder (2009), and three times silver medalist of the Armenian championship (1996/97, 1999, 2000). As part of “Ararat”, he participated in 242 matches and scored 62 goals. Arkady Andreasyan was included four times (1971, 1973, 1974, 1975) in the list of the 33 best footballers of the USSR.

Arkady Andreasyan held the titles of “Honored Master of Sports of the USSR”, “Honored Coach of the Armenian SSR”, “Honored Figure of Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia”, and was a medalist of the first degree “For Services to the Fatherland”.
