Arman Arakelyan, sentenced to 18 years in prison for killing an Azerbaijani in Russia, was transferred to Armenia yesterday. His lawyer Artur Dashyan told this to NEWS.am.
“For a long time the Armenian side was creating major problems; the Ministry of Justice was obstructing from 2018 to 2020. A decision was made to accept during Badasyan’s time, but the restrictions related to the coronavirus hindered it, then the war started, and finally now we have succeeded in bringing Arman back to the homeland, where he will continue serving his sentence,” he said.
Previously, he was serving his sentence in the prison of the city of Murmansk in the Russian Federation, where, according to the lawyer, his life could have been in danger, since Azerbaijanis could have sought revenge against him.
Let us recall that Arman Arakelyan, sentenced to 18 years in prison in Russia for killing an Azerbaijani, had already served 6 years in Murmansk prison. He killed the Azerbaijani when the latter uttered curses against Armenians in his café and broke the pictures of Armenian national heroes hanging on the wall.
