The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia has responded to the statement by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov that Baku finds Yerevan’s preconditions for starting border delimitation unacceptable.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Vahan Hunanyan stressed that the Armenian side has no preconditions on the issue of delimitation, but rather that the matter concerns agreements.
“The trilateral statement adopted on November 26 in Sochi by the Prime Minister of Armenia and the Presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan states that the parties have agreed to ‘take steps to raise the level of security and stability on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and move towards the formation of a bilateral commission on border delimitation and demarcation.’ This agreement was reaffirmed, and an agreement to begin the process of troop withdrawal was reached during the trilateral meeting of the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan held in Brussels on December 14, mediated by the President of the European Council.
Accordingly, the Armenian side’s proposals concern not preconditions, but the implementation of the agreements reached. The Republic of Armenia believes that the delimitation process should begin as soon as possible, in accordance with the aforementioned agreements,” said Hunanyan.
