In Turkey, as a result of the powerful earthquake that took place on 6 February, Armenian-origin singer Zilan Tigris and her husband, who live in Diyarbekir (Tigranakert), have also remained trapped under the rubble. Akunq.net learned this from a Facebook post by Udi Yervand, an Armenian art figure from Tigranakert.
“According to the source, Zilan Tigris and her husband, Chaghtash Chankayan, have not yet been pulled out from under the rubble. The Center for the Study of Western Armenian Affairs has expressed hope that they will be found alive and well and brought out from there,” the website wrote.
Zilan Tigris was born in 1972 in Tigranakert. She has Armenian origin on both her mother’s and father’s sides.
The Armenian-origin singer participated in August 2015 in the “Ari Tun” program organized by the RA Ministry of Diaspora, within the framework of which she visited Armenia together with 85 Armenians.
It should be noted that the deaths of 3 Armenians had been reported in Turkey. As a result of the devastating earthquake, 2 Armenians of Armenian nationality, who were a married couple, had perished in Malatya. Their two children were in the hospital. Today, one of the young children has also died in the hospital.
