The Institute of Molecular Biology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia is to receive the official permit for the production of coronavirus test kits from the RA Ministry of Health in the coming days.
At a press conference held at the Armenpress news agency, the Institute’s director Arsen Arakelyan stated that they will begin distributing the test kits immediately after receiving the official permit.
“The National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, which carries out the testing, has sent the results to the Ministry of Health, which has already sent the permit to the Institute. We had stated that we can produce 2,000 test kits per day, but if necessary, it will be possible to increase the volumes,” said Arsen Arakelyan. He reported that they already have 6,000 test kits in stock. During this period, they have tested the possibilities of production capacity. Taking the results into account, the Institute’s director assured that they can comfortably increase production volumes.
Speaking about the quality of the test kits, Arsen Arakelyan reported that, according to the tests, they have achieved 98 percent accuracy.
During the production of the diagnostic test kits, the Institute has closely cooperated with foreign partners. As for the question of their export, Arsen Arakelyan reported that this is not being discussed at the moment, because the test kits must go through a rather long phase of certification and registration, and for that, legislative possibilities are needed.
