The international competition “MUNDUS VINI 2021” concluded with great success from the perspective of Armenian winemakers. Thus, the products of Armenia’s “Armenia” wine company were awarded eight top medals. Of those medals, six are gold and two are silver.
The “Grand International Wine Award” international competition, founded in Germany decades ago and holding worldwide renown, is considered the largest and most influential in the winemaking sector across the globe. Every year this competition comes to define the quality of wine. Thousands of producers from dozens of countries participate in this competition, within the scope of which evaluation is carried out by some 170 international experts in the field.
This year, the prestigious “Grand International Wine Award MUNDUS VINI” competition, organised for the 29th time, lasted four days. The highly qualified jury tasted and evaluated around 4,500 wines from around the world to select the best. The results were impressive from Armenia’s perspective. Thus, the “Armenia” company was one of the gold medalists on the honours platform, having won eight medals in total.
Wineries that earn awards at this competition receive special honour. The “Best of Show” title is conferred upon them. This title is given only to the best wine in its category, which was deemed to be the “Takar” dry red wine from the 2019 harvest of the “Armenia” winery. The company’s wines of various styles were awarded, made both from purely Armenian grapes and from a blend of Armenian and European varieties.
According to reports from “Armenpress”, this unprecedented success establishes a new status for Armenian wine among global consumers. Indeed, the jury’s experienced members have already guaranteed its excellence through the results of a “blind” tasting. The “Armenia” company has participated in this competition since 2016. Through its continuous winning of medals, it has raised Armenia’s winemaking ranking. This triumph is a testament to the steadfast approach adopted by the company, which envisions presenting quality Armenian wines that meet international standards and are competitive in the global market.
Jean-Baptiste Soula, senior advisor to the “Armenia” company, who hails from Bordeaux, France, shared his impressions on this occasion. According to him, the competition was truly intense, and the company speaks with great pride about becoming the worthy face of Armenian winemaking in the international market through its wine. “Earning the ‘Best of Show Armenia’ title further increases the responsibility we have assumed,” he stated.
Grigor Aleksanyan, winemaker at the “Armenia” company, also said on this occasion: “This victory of our wines brings great honour not only to our company, but also to our homeland, which has a centuries-old history of winemaking, once again restoring the proud ancient title of ‘cradle of winemaking’.”
