As of January 1, 2019, the permanent population of the Republic of Armenia had decreased by 7,400 compared to the beginning of 2018, amounting to 2 million 965 thousand 300 people. As of January 1, 2019, the permanent population of the Republic of Armenia had decreased by 7,400 compared to the beginning of 2018, amounting to 2 million 965 thousand 300 people. This is reported by Tert.am, citing the National Statistical Service.

Since 1992, the permanent population of the Republic of Armenia has decreased year by year. If in 1992 the population was 3 million 633 thousand 300, then as of January 1, 2019, the population stood at 2 million 965 thousand 300. That is, over the course of 27 years, the permanent population of the Republic of Armenia has decreased by 668 thousand.

According to the administrative records of the state register of the population of the Republic of Armenia maintained by the Passport and Visa Department of the RA Police, in 2018, 42,080 registrations of population movements and 35,767 deregistrations were recorded. According to the results of the integrated survey of living conditions of households, the net migration indicator in 2018 was estimated at -18.2 thousand people, for the urban population -8.4 thousand, and for the rural population -9.8 thousand people.

At the beginning of 2019, the share of the urban population was 63.9%, and the rural population 36.1%. In the structure of the permanent population, 47.3% were men and 52.7% were women. The average age of the population as of the beginning of 2019 was 36.7 years, for men 34.6, and for women 38.5 years.

During 2018, according to civil status registrations, 37,197 births were recorded in the Republic of Armenia. The sex ratio at birth — the number of boys per 100 girls — is 111.1.

In 2018, 25,751 deaths were registered in the Republic of Armenia. 

In 2018, 8,330 foreigners received residence status in the Republic of Armenia, including 713 with special, 1,809 with permanent and 5,803 with temporary status.

In 2018, 218 people applied for asylum in the Republic of Armenia, 72 received refugee status, and refugee status was terminated for 98 people.
