At least 50 journalists and media workers have been killed this year around the world. As reported by CNN, citing the annual report of the organization “Reporters Without Borders,” the majority of them fell victim in non-war countries.
The report states that journalists were targeted and killed because of their work. This year, 83 percent of journalists killed were victims of deliberate attacks, whereas in 2019 that figure was 63 percent.
This year’s report covers incidents that took place from January 1 to December 15.
The overall figure has decreased compared to the 53 victims in 2019. It was noted that journalists’ activity was also reduced due to the “Corona” virus pandemic.
Mexico tops the list of the most dangerous countries for journalists, where on average 8-10 journalists have been killed according to data from the past five years.
Iraq, Afghanistan, India and Pakistan are also among the dangerous countries.
