The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia has passed in the first reading a draft law on filming traffic violations and reporting them to the police through an application. According to Armenpress, the bill, which sparked heated discussions in parliament, was authored by members of the “My Step” faction, Armen Pambukhchyan and Sisak Gabrielyan.
“It is obvious that after the revolution, citizens today, more than ever, are willing to cooperate with law enforcement bodies. Many citizens post videos and photos of various violations on social networks, on the basis of which administrative proceedings are mostly initiated. The purpose of this bill is to better regulate that entire process. In short, citizens will be given the opportunity to film road traffic violations and transmit them to the police online. The data of the citizen who recorded the video will remain confidential,” said Gabrielyan, adding that after sending the video, the citizen will no longer have a role in that process.
He noted that the online mode was established so that the police officer would know very clearly that it was done on a specific day and place, through the GPS system. A special electronic application will be created. 30-50 million drams are earmarked for this program, depending on its multifunctionality. Gabrielyan noted that the application will also be useful in the case of accidents, to quickly determine the location of the car through the GPS system.
