The accumulation of Azerbaijani military vehicles near the mountains of Jermuk occurred about two weeks ago, when the Azerbaijani side approached the new Armenian-Azerbaijani border to adjust the borders and reinforce positions. This was stated to NEWS.am by the mayor of Jermuk, Vardan Hovhannisyan, noting that on that day he too was at the border, and negotiations were held between the two sides regarding demarcation.
“Just as our people went up with vehicles, so did they come, and moreover their vehicles were not only transporting personnel to hold positions in the direction of Jermuk, but also in adjacent directions. On the Armenian side there were military personnel; the negotiations were conducted by the relevant officers of the Defense Army, demarcation was carried out along the border drawn during the Soviet years, and our army is also standing on the border of Armenia,” said the mayor, noting that the border in the direction of Jermuk is being held by army units that came out of Karvachar.
The border is now, according to the mayor, 12 km from the town of Jermuk. In that section, pasturelands used by residents of nearby villages are again passing under Azerbaijani control.
According to the mayor, after Jermuk became a border town, the daily life of the city has not changed; the sanatoriums are operating as before.
