Charles Michel Calls on Yerevan and Baku to Engage in Dialogue

Charles Michel, President of the European Council, has once again called on Yerevan and Baku to resolve the issues in their bilateral relations through dialogue. Michel made this statement in a video message addressed to the participants of the “Eastern Partnership” Civil Society Conference. “Protracted conflicts constitute a serious challenge for the ‘Eastern Partnership’ region. New efforts must be made so that conflicts are resolved on the basis of the rules and principles of international law. Charles Michel, President of the European Council, has once again called on Yerevan and Baku to resolve the issues in their bilateral relations through dialogue. Michel made this statement in a video message addressed to the participants of the “Eastern Partnership” Civil Society Conference.

“Protracted conflicts constitute a serious challenge for the ‘Eastern Partnership’ region. New efforts must be made so that conflicts are resolved on the basis of the rules and principles of international law. The European Union is ready to assume a role in the settlement of conflicts and in preventing them,” stated Charles Michel, adding, “The relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan demonstrate how fragile the situation is. I have no doubt that only political dialogue can lead to a lasting solution. The civil societies of both countries can also contribute to this, by bridging communities and supporting efforts aimed at reconciliation.”
