A statue of the great Armenian musician, pedagogue and conductor Komitas has been unveiled in the courtyard of the Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople.
The unveiling of the statue was carried out under the auspices of the Patriarchal Vicar Bishop Sahak Mashalian, and the sponsor is Sarkis Gulkechekian.
The author of the Komitas statue is Constantinople-Armenian sculptor Erol Sarafyan, who spoke at the unveiling about Komitas’s role and the work he carried out.
The statue of the great musician of Armenian origin from Turkey has been placed in the Patriarchate’s garden on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of his birth. During a certain period of his life, Komitas worked in Constantinople, created the famous “Gusan” choir, and played a major role in the life of the Armenians of Constantinople.
