The peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan is the “key to peace” in the South Caucasus. This was stated by Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, as reported by Anadolu.

Continuing on the topic, Cavusoglu drew attention to the efforts aimed at regulating relations between Turkey and Armenia.

“The special representatives (the representatives of the two countries in the Armenia-Turkey normalization process) have held four meetings. After Azerbaijan’s victory, Turkey came out in favour of long-term peace in the South Caucasus. Steps in this direction are continuing. This concerns the restoration of air communication with Armenia and so on. Certain efforts have been made in the field of trade,” the Turkish minister said.

At the same time, he called subjective the attempts to perceive the Ankara-Yerevan dialogue as isolated from the contacts between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“The long-term ‘key to peace’ in the South Caucasus is a comprehensive peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Baku has announced its initiatives, to which Yerevan has not responded. A joint commission has been established to begin the work. This concerns the ‘Zangezur corridor.’ However, this worries Armenia. Yerevan must decide whether it wants peace,” Cavusoglu continued.

At the same time, he stressed that two years later, Armenian troops have still not left “Azerbaijani territory.”

“It is obvious to everyone that Armenia is not sincere in the normalization process. Yerevan must know that Ankara has no secret plans from Baku; we are in favour of ‘peace’,” he concluded.
