The premiere of the film “Charles’s Gaze,” dedicated to the renowned singer of Armenian descent, took place at the “Elysées–Biarritz” cinema in Paris. The first viewers of the film were Charles’s relatives and friends. It was shot based on material from Charles’s personal archive.
“In 1948, Édith Piaf, the queen of French chanson, gave Charles his first camera, which Aznavour never parted with afterward. By the 1980s, the footage he had shot with that camera amounted to hundreds of hours. That footage had become a kind of diary, on the basis of which the film was made,” related director Marc di Domenico, a close friend of Aznavour.
The Aznavour Foundation also announced that several major projects have been launched aimed at preserving Aznavour’s legacy. Among them, the film “Charles’s Gaze,” which is to be released on the big screen in France on 2 October, is one of the first.
