A professor in the History and Geography department of Ankara State University, Bülent İplikçioğlu, has published on his Facebook page a historical map printed in Berlin, on which Greater Armenia (Armenia) and Lesser Armenia (Armenia Minor) are marked, covering a significant portion of the territories of the present-day Republic of Turkey. This was reported by “Ermenihaber”.

It is noteworthy that the aforementioned professor’s Facebook cover photo features a picture of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder and first president of the Republic of Turkey.

The Turkish professor’s unhesitating publication of the aforementioned map came within the framework of addressing themes of the Hellenistic period and the Roman Empire. Nevertheless, publishing a map that includes Greater and Lesser Armenia would have required professional courage from the Turkish professor. Because, as we already know from past experience, the general public in Turkey, especially nationalist circles and the press of that same current, are quite sensitive to such incidents. Painful and aggressive perceptions toward the territories of historical Armenia are frequently manifested in Turkey.

Literally recently, a stir was raised by the media and also spread through social networks, over a map used in a historical series by the American company “Netflix”, where the word “ARMENIA” was presented over the eastern territories of present-day Turkey.

And within this framework, it is noteworthy that the map published by the aforementioned Turkish professor, who has around 5,000 followers on Facebook, has not yet elicited critical reactions. Moreover, his post and the accompanying map have also been shared on other social media platforms and within professional groups, receiving likes and positive responses.
