Ryanair’s New Initiative: Affordable Fares from Yerevan to Europe

“Armenia today becomes the 40th country in Ryanair’s network. We are here today to announce new routes from Yerevan to Rome and Milan, which will launch in January, and Berlin in summer 2020. And perhaps the first European route from Gyumri to Munich, again in summer 2020,” said David O’Brien, head of communications for the Irish budget airline Ryanair, during a press conference.

The head of Ryanair noted that they are confident that the 130,000 passengers they plan to carry will also contribute to the creation of jobs at the airport.

“If we compare our fares with those of high-cost carriers, these 135,000 passengers will save 20 million euros,” said David O’Brien, stressing the company’s adherence to environmental standards.

David O’Brien noted that the most affordable price on Ryanair’s website starts at around 4 euros 99 cents. The highest price, for example, for London-Malaga on a Friday, if not booked in advance, will be high, but half the price compared to competitors. The average ticket price is 35 euros.

Flights from Yerevan are planned twice a week, and will increase in case of success.

According to David O’Brien, Armenia and Ireland have much in common: both are on the edge of Europe, both are small countries, but the obvious difference is the weather, which should be good for tourism. O’Brien also presented the company, noting that it is the largest airline and has the largest network in Europe. This year it will serve 150 million customers, increasing that to 200 million next year. The company has about 500 aircraft and more than 2,000 routes.

“The secret of our success is simple: we offer people efficient services at affordable prices,” said David O’Brien.

The head of the Civil Aviation Committee, Tatevik Revazyan, noted that after moving to Armenia, her goal has been to increase Armenia’s air connectivity, as it can have a huge impact on the economy and create many jobs.

“I am proud that Ryanair is here,” said Tatevik Revazyan.
