Simon Martirosyan is European Youth Champion

Armenia’s strongest weightlifter Simon Martirosyan competed in the +109 kg category at the European Under-23 Championships concluded in Bucharest and claimed the champion’s title with a total of 434 kg. This is reported by Armsport:  Simon set a competition record in the snatch, lifting 198 kg above his head, which is a European standard, while in the clean and jerk the Armenian athlete lifted a barbell weighing 236 kg. Simon Martirosyan also won small gold medals in the individual lifts. It should be noted that Liana Gyurjyan, Karen Avagyan, Arpine Dalalyan and Varazdat Lalayan won the champion’s title at the European Under-20 Weightlifting Championships. Ara Aghanyan and Rafik Harutyunyan were awarded silver and bronze medals respectively.

At the Under-23 Championships, Hagop Mkrtchyan and Samuel Gasparyan had also won gold medals. In the Under-23 competition, Tatev Hagopyan and Davit Hovhannisyan took second and third places respectively.
