State of Emergency Will Not Be Extended; New Restrictions Will Take Effect

At today’s Cabinet meeting, Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan presented a package of draft laws developed with the Ministry of Health, which proposes not to extend the state of emergency. “As we have discussed on numerous occasions, a situation is possible in which the decline in the rate of infection growth may allow us to achieve the legitimate goal—namely, fighting the epidemic and protecting the lives and health of citizens—without the legal regime of a state of emergency. At today’s Cabinet meeting, Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan presented a package of draft laws developed with the Ministry of Health, which proposes not to extend the state of emergency.

“As we have discussed on numerous occasions, a situation is possible in which the decline in the rate of infection growth may allow us to achieve the legitimate goal—namely, fighting the epidemic and protecting the lives and health of citizens—without the legal regime of a state of emergency. It is with these considerations in mind that we have developed this package of draft laws,” the minister said.

According to the minister, if the package of laws is adopted, the state of emergency will no longer be extended after 11 September; instead, the restrictions defined by the new amendments will take effect.
