Turkish media outlets have touched upon the marriage of the Turkish writer Orhan Pamuk, well known to Armenian society. But they have placed greater emphasis on the fact that Pamuk had once declared, during an interview given to the Swiss magazine Das Magazin, that the Turks had massacred 1 million Armenians.
“And after that, he was awarded the Nobel Prize,” wrote the electronic site of the Yeni Cag newspaper.
It should be noted that Pamuk was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2006. His works have been translated into more than 50 languages worldwide, including Armenian.
Pamuk formalized his relationship of already 10 years with Aslı Akyavaş, a graduate of the International Politics department of Boğaziçi University, and registered their marriage at the municipal office of the Beyoğlu district of Constantinople.
Pamuk’s wife participated in an educational program at the University of California in the United States in 2002. In Turkey, she has held executive positions in the healthcare sector.
Let us recall that nationalist circles in Turkey treat Orhan Pamuk with hostility, because he has spoken about the Armenian Genocide, accusing the Turks of massacring 1 million Armenians and 30 thousand Kurds.
