On 26 July, US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Armenia Lynne Tracy visited Gegharkunik Province, accompanied by representatives of the RA Ministry of Defense.
The commander of the military unit, Major General Arayik Harutyunyan, presented to the ambassador the situation prevailing on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, after which a visit was organized to the border line of the Verin Shorzha section.
Ambassador Tracy reaffirmed the United States’ concern regarding incidents along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and emphasized that the United States rejects the use of force in the context of border demarcation.
The ambassador also stressed that the United States, as a co-chair country of the OSCE Minsk Group, remains deeply committed to the process of working with all parties to achieve a long-term political settlement of the Karabakh conflict. At the same time, according to Lynne Tracy, the United States demands that the parties return as quickly as possible to the negotiations underway at the level of the Minsk Group co-chairs.
