The Aznavour Foundation and the son of the great Armenian figure, Nicolas Aznavour, have applied to the Government of the Republic of Armenia with a proposal to name the “Zvartnots” airport after Charles Aznavour. The Foundation has announced that the initiative’s authors are Charles Aznavour’s supporters.
“In October 2018, a group of Charles Aznavour’s supporters first began an online petition, gathering tens of thousands of signatures, then addressed an official letter to the Civil Aviation Committee and the management of the “Zvartnots” airport. We were informed that Mr. Ernekian greatly approved of the idea and addressed an official letter to the government expressing his positive attitude,” stated the Foundation’s application addressed to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia.
In order to express a position on this matter, the Government of the Republic of Armenia has turned to the Public Council of the Republic of Armenia.
“Given the difficulties and impossibility of convening sessions by the Public Council and its relevant commissions under the conditions of the state of emergency, we shall be compelled to conduct the discussion of this and other issues and the confirmation of conclusions through electronic or remote means.
The package received from the Government of the Republic of Armenia has been sent to all members of the Public Council, but no less important is the public’s viewpoint, at least through social networks, for which purpose the proposal is being posted on the Public Council’s Facebook page.
We would be glad to receive your observations and opinions on this matter,” wrote Public Council President Stepa Safaryan on the Public Council’s Facebook page.
