More than 130 people have already participated in the voluntary study of Covid-19 antibodies conducted by Yerevan State Medical University in Armenia. In an interview with “Armenpress,” the university’s Vice-Rector for Science, Konstantin Yenkoyan, said this.
He noted that the study is free of charge, but only those who have a positive PCR test result for the “Corona” virus can participate.
“As of 18 August, more than 130 people have already been sampled. I believe we will have more than 200 samples, which we will send for testing, and by the end of August we will already have the first results. People who have a positive PCR test can come for sampling on a voluntary basis, but we recommend that about 2 months pass after infection so that the picture is clearer,” said Konstantin Yenkoyan.
“We are conducting a study to understand whether immunity develops in a person after this disease or not. There are different views in the international arena now, because it is still early to say anything definitive. When the infection enters the human organism, the immune response begins to form in the patient. Antibodies begin to appear within a few days. In the final stage of the disease, resistance (immunity) IgG develops. Our task is to determine how long it remains in the human organism. It can remain for a long or short time, depending on the course of the disease,” noted the YSMU vice-rector.
Konstantin Yenkoyan, Vice-Rector for Science at YSMU, noted that the process carried out within the framework of the Covid_Antibody project is absolutely harmless, like any other study for which blood needs to be drawn from a vein.
Yerevan State Medical University will also implement the “Covid-neuro” program, which studies the changes caused by Covid-19 on the human nervous system.
