The Armenian community of Argentina strongly condemns the sponsorship by Turkish Airlines of River Plate, one of Argentina’s leading football clubs. This was reported by Ermenihaber.am, citing Dikgazete.
From now on, the Argentine club’s jersey will bear the Turkish company’s logo and the words “Turkish Airlines.” The contract has been signed for three years.
Eduardo Kostanyan, a member of one of the Armenian community organizations in Argentina, spoke on the matter. He noted that in this way Turkey is trying, above all, to raise its profile in the world. According to him, in that regard, Turkish Airlines is an important tool for Turkey.
“We do not want the Turkish company to invade Argentine football,” Kostanyan said.
It should be noted that Armenians in Argentina have on several occasions held protests against the visit of Turkish President Recep Erdogan. Argentine Armenians stress that Erdogan’s regime denies the Armenian Genocide and keeps the border with Armenia closed, linking the issue to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
