The 44-year-old man from Hadrut found killed on 18 January in the territories of Artsakh that have come under Azerbaijani control was the son of Sasha Karakhanyan of Hadrut, who had returned from captivity about a month earlier and had himself been in captivity.
Sasha Karakhanyan’s grandson, Vrej Karakhanyan, said that those conducting search operations in Hadrut found the body of his uncle by chance. Arsen Karakhanyan was killed and buried by the Azerbaijanis in one of the villages of Hadrut.
“Once they had passed by the same spot and there was nothing like that; this time they saw that the pit was of a different shape, they dug it up and found the body. He had been killed a few days earlier, and the body had bruises,” he said.
Arsen Karakhanyan’s family had confirmed on 6 January that he was a captive, when the Azerbaijanis circulated his video on social networks.
Sasha Karakhanyan, a resident of Hadrut, had been taken captive from his home in October. He had returned to the homeland about a month ago with 44 other people. The family had no news of his son, Arsen, and assumed he was in captivity; afterwards they saw the video circulated online and were convinced that he had been taken captive.
