A criminal case has been opened against the Azerbaijanis who attacked Armenians in one of the bars (taverns) in Tomsk, under Article 2 of the Russian Criminal Code (incitement of ethnic strife and battery). This was stated by German Ananyants, Vice-President of the Union of Armenians of Russia.
According to his clarification, the incident, footage of which had recently surfaced, took place at least 2 weeks ago.
According to German Ananyants, as a result of the Azerbaijani attack, three Armenians were taken to hospital; they are now already at home.
“During the brawl, the Azerbaijanis allowed themselves nationalist, anti-Armenian insults, demanding that the Armenians leave the bar. Now one of the Azerbaijanis has been arrested and is giving testimony to the investigative body, and another is on the wanted list. The latter, I am convinced, will be found soon. All participants in the brawl are citizens of Russia,” said German Ananyants.
He stressed that the situation is not only under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office, but also of the chairman of the regional branch of the Union of Armenians of Russia in the Tomsk region, who previously served as a police colonel in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“The local authorities are fully supporting us. This process will be carried through to the end,” Ananyants assured.
