Jewish extremists have attacked the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem and Armenians. This was written on his Facebook page by the Dean of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, Father Aghan Gogchyan.
“Late in the evening of January 28, two Jewish extremists, while heading to the ‘Wailing Wall’ along the Armenian Patriarchate Street, first tried to obstruct traffic in front of the Armenian Convent, then, stepping off the road, struck the car of young Armenians returning home from work. The young Armenians got out of the car, spoke courteously and asked: ‘Why are you hitting the car, this is our neighbourhood, we are returning home from work. We respect Jews, why are you doing such things, what have we done to you?’
One of the Jewish extremists began to shout: ‘You have no neighbourhood here. This is our country, get out of our country.’
And when the young Armenians said, ‘This is also our country, our home is here, we were born here, we have nowhere else to go,’ the other extremist sprayed tear gas into the eyes of a young Armenian, and the two fled. The young Armenians tried to pursue them in order to hand them over to the police, but the effect of the tear gas did not allow it, and a friend took the young Armenian to the hospital.
After returning from the hospital, the young Armenians filed a complaint with the police. The police located the two Jewish extremists and arrested them. One of them was released at dawn, while the one who sprayed the tear gas remains under arrest.
An hour after this incident, another group of Jewish extremists, heading to the ‘Wailing Wall’ and passing through the Patriarchate Street, tried to climb onto the roof of the Armenian Patriarchate and remove the Patriarchate’s cross-bearing and the flags of the Republic of Armenia. At that moment, the young Armenians standing in front of the Convent noticed this, approached and prevented the actions of the Jewish extremists; the latter fled and soon returned in a smaller group, this time masked.
The masked extremists again tried to provoke a fight, sprayed tear gas into the air in the direction of the young Armenians, cursed the Armenians and fled towards the police. The young Armenians pursued them, and when the latter saw that the Armenians were chasing them, they shouted: ‘Terrorist attack, terrorist attack.’
The police, believing that the shouts of the Jewish extremists were true, blocked the path of the young Armenians, and, holding their weapons on them, beat several of them, and arresting Kevork Kahkejian among them, took him to the police station, on the charge that he had attacked a police officer, which has no connection with reality.
Kevork Kahkejian was held at the police station overnight; the next day, January 29, in the afternoon, through the direct intervention of His Beatitude Archbishop Nourhan Manougian, Patriarch, and by court decision, Kevork Kahkejian was released and given 20 days of house arrest. And since Kevork Kahkejian has bodily injuries, at the request of the Convent’s lawyer, the police allowed him to undergo a medical examination,” he wrote.
