Freedom House, the international human rights organization, has published its 2019 ranking list regarding internet freedom.
“The positive changes brought about by the 2018 Velvet Revolution continue in Armenia. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has led efforts aimed at reducing content restrictions and violations of users’ rights… Digital media have gained greater freedom from economic and political pressures,” the organization’s report states.
In the internet freedom index, Armenia scored 76 out of 100 points and ranks 8th. It has surpassed countries such as Japan and South Korea.
Neighboring Georgia scored 1 point less and is also included in the list of countries with free internet.
Azerbaijan and Turkey are included in the list of countries with unfree internet, scoring 39 and 37 points respectively.
