The Turkish press has given wide coverage to the call made by Armenian deputy Garo Paylan to Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu during budget debates in the Turkish parliament.
In his address to the foreign minister, Garo Paylan, the Armenian deputy of Turkey’s Kurdish “Peoples’ Democratic” party, criticised the discriminatory statements made by Turkey’s politicians.
Paylan stressed that Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu should not use the expression “honourable kinsmen” in his speeches, since Armenians, Kurds, Arabs, Assyrians and other peoples who are citizens of Turkey also enjoy equal rights. Paylan called on Çavuşoğlu to henceforth use the word “compatriots” rather than the discriminatory word “kinsmen”.
The Turkish press notes that after Garo Paylan’s speech, Çavuşoğlu found himself in an awkward position.
