Armenian weightlifter Hagop Mkrtchyan has become world champion in weightlifting.
“I had come to Thailand for the world champion title.” This is what the newly crowned world champion and this year’s European champion Hagop Mkrtchyan said during a conversation with a NEWS.am Sport correspondent.
In the 89 kg category competition at the World Weightlifting Championships underway in Pattaya, Thailand, on 23 September, Hagop Mkrtchyan was declared world champion with a total of 375 kg.
“I thank everyone for their congratulations. The expectations from this world championship were very high. I had come here to win, to become world champion. I fully corrected last year’s mistake,” said Hagop Mkrtchyan.
