Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has called on his country’s media to use the Azerbaijani names of Armenia’s settlements.
The Azerbaijani leader has begun the process of toponymic annexation from Vardenis. “This road (Aliyev is in occupied Kalbajar) leads to the Basarkechar district. In Armenia it is called the Vardenis district. But the real name of this district and region is Basarkechar,” said Aliyev.
Aliyev then cited false historical facts, declaring “ancient Azerbaijani land” and that “the absolute majority of the inhabitants were Azerbaijanis.”
