The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has found the vaccine developed by Moderna to be safe and effective, Bloomberg reports, citing the agency’s report.
The report states that the vaccine’s efficacy is 94.1%.
According to the report, the vaccine is nearly equally effective across different racial and ethnic groups. Moreover, the vaccine showed 86.4% efficacy for the group of people over 65 years of age and 95.6% for the group of people aged 18-65.
The report was published on the eve of a meeting of a group of experts from agencies under the US Department of Health and Human Services. During the meeting, experts are to decide whether the vaccine should be recommended for mass vaccination or not, Interfax reports.
On 1 December, Moderna announced that it had submitted a request to the FDA for emergency use authorization of its vaccine against the coronavirus. Earlier, the vaccine’s 94.1% efficacy had been reported.
Earlier, the FDA approved the use of vaccines from Pfizer and BioNTech. Mass vaccination began in the US the day before.
