Earlier, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had announced that the US would impose sanctions on the president and employees of Turkish Defense Industries (SSB) in connection with Ankara’s acquisition of Russian S-400 systems.

Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the decision, stating that it intends to take response measures at its own discretion.

The Incirlik air base has been jointly operated by the US and Turkish air forces for decades and is an important hub for US operations in Iraq and Syria.
