We will see the results of the Armenian lobby’s work abroad near the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. This was stated by Ruben Safrastyan, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Armenian Academy of Sciences and a Turkologist, during a meeting with journalists.
According to him, the two resolutions adopted by the US last year cannot fail to have consequences for the cause of recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide throughout the world. The expert emphasised the serious analytical work of Armenian experts regarding the processes under way in the Middle East, since it is not excluded that we stand on the threshold of changes similar to those that took place at the beginning of the 20th century, when the Treaty of Sèvres was signed, aimed at the creation of a Christian state in the north of Turkey.
“Today everything is moving in the direction that the Armenian question can become topical again, but it will have a different character, taking into account the existence of the Armenian state, which, by applying soft power, can advance its agenda in the public and political circles of many countries of the world,” he explained.
Safrastyan noted that relations between Russia and the US have recently undergone change. “Washington has begun to actively take Moscow’s position into account in strategic matters and to call it the world’s second adversary after China. Russia, for its part, is very active in the UN, a manifestation of which was its initiative to convene a Security Council session to resolve global problems. All this, as well as the situation in the Middle East, testifies to the fact that we must be prepared for the most unexpected scenarios,” the Turkologist summarised.
