Sixty-nine members of the United States House of Representatives, from both parties, have called for an end to military aid to Azerbaijan and for $150 million in assistance to Artsakh and Armenia. This was announced by the Armenian National Committee of America.
The initiative is led by Frank Pallone, founding co-chair of the Congressional Armenian Caucus.
The House members sent a letter to Mario Diaz-Balart, chairman of the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee, and to Barbara Lee, the subcommittee’s ranking member, who have already begun work on the House version of the fiscal year 2024 foreign aid bill.
“The United States’ continued military aid to Azerbaijan presents itself as a ‘blank check’ for an Azerbaijani attack, a green light for an Azerbaijani attack. It should have stopped on the first day of President Biden’s tenure; he took office as a sharp critic of arming Aliyev and helping Aliyev. But if our president does not do what is right, then Congress must act,” said Aram Hamparian, director of the Armenian National Committee of America.
