About 16,000 non-residents have opened new accounts in Armenian banks, a significant portion of whom are residents of Russia. This was stated by the Chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia, Martin Galstyan.
According to him, banking systems around the world traditionally have clear rules of the game; non-residents are always under stricter supervision.
“In the current situation, Armenia’s banking system is doing very correct work in the sense that all international rules are being observed. At the same time, we see that under these rules we have not only citizens of Russia, but also of other countries, who, by entering the bank and proving that the center of their economic interest is moving to Armenia, have the opportunity to open accounts in Armenian commercial banks and be served in Armenia’s banking system. The number of such clients, if I am not mistaken, is currently about 16,000,” said Galstyan.
Residents of Russia constitute a significant portion of these new clients.
