Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has made another round of aggressive statements against Armenia.
Azerbaijani media reported that Aliyev, while in Lachin, “warned Armenia against provocations, otherwise Azerbaijan would give a fitting response.”
“Today Armenia must think carefully. No one can speak to us with ultimatums, and let them not place hope on anyone. I want to say again that no one and nothing can stop us. We are supporters of law, justice, and international law; we protect, have protected, and have restored our territorial integrity. We showed the whole world what we are capable of; we liberated our land by force and we are proud of that,” said Aliyev.
The Azerbaijani president stated that “Armenia does not want peace and has a vengeful disposition.” He complained that official Yerevan has been dragging out the border demarcation process for almost a year, and now it is merely formal in nature, with nothing substantive, and there is no discussion whatsoever of maps.
Aliyev announced that the Azerbaijani side has prepared maps from the 20th century and earlier periods, and that work on border demarcation should proceed on their basis.
“If Armenia wants to accuse us of having entered their territory, that has no justification whatsoever. First of all, if the borders were where they say they are, border construction work would be underway. They thought that all of Karabakh and Zangezur would remain theirs. That is why they did nothing on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border,” said the Azerbaijani president.
