“I am officially a citizen of Armenia. This is one of my proudest achievements, one of my victories,” wrote Allison Halvorson, an Armenian-American track and field athlete representing the United States, on her Instagram page.
In this way she announced that she has obtained Armenian citizenship and, in all likelihood, will represent our country at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. She also published photos with the Armenian passport.
Allison also made a historical reference: “More than 100 years ago my ancestors lived through some of the hardest times the world has ever seen, they went through it … many of them lost their lives, but my grandfather barely managed to survive the Armenian Genocide. He arrived at Ellis Island by ship dressed in a girl’s dress. Without the sacrifices and courage of my ancestors, I would not be here today. I am in love with this wonderful, beautiful, hospitable and strong country and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for me and for Armenia.”
