The Armenian Caucus of the U.S. Congress addressed a letter on 27 September to U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Defense Mark Esper.
In the letter, the Caucus expressed concern over the increase in the scale of military aid provided to Azerbaijan and the disruption of the balance between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The letter was signed by Congressmen Frank Pallone, Jackie Speier and Adam Schiff.
The leaders of the Armenian Caucus called on the U.S. State Department and the Department of Defense to take into account the fact of Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act adopted in 1992 regarding Azerbaijan, which has been waived annually since 2002 by a special document issued by the State Department. The resolution prohibits the provision of direct American aid to Azerbaijan as long as the Azerbaijani leadership takes no steps against the blockade of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh and has not ceased its belligerent actions against them.
In the letter, the Congressmen request the immediate cessation of military aid to Azerbaijan, a review of the procedure for waiving Section 907, and the provision of detailed information regarding the aid given to Azerbaijan.
