UN Secretary-General António Guterres is concerned about the situation prevailing in northeastern Syria, where Turkey is carrying out a military operation, reports the Associated Press, citing Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General.
“The UN Secretary-General is deeply concerned about the latest developments taking place in northeastern Syria. All military operations must be carried out in accordance with the UN Charter and the laws of international humanitarian law, and the safety of civilians and civilian infrastructure must be ensured,” he explained, adding that the UN Secretary-General emphasizes that the Syrian conflict has no military solution, and that in the case of every decision, Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be preserved.
It should be noted that on 9 October, Turkish President Erdoğan announced a military operation in Syria called “Operation Peace Spring.”
