«Ramgavar Mamoul», Cyprus.- The High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Zareh Sinanyan, on the last day of his official visit to Cyprus, held a meeting with community figures.

«Ramgavar Mamoul» received this information from Cyprus.

According to our source, at the start of the meeting, the state representative of the Armenian community in the House of Representatives, Vartkes Mahdessian, presented the activities and ongoing work of the institutions. Subsequently, those present directed questions to Zareh Sinanyan for more than an hour, inquiring about the office’s functions, programs, new directions in Armenia-Diaspora work, and the preservation of Western Armenian.

During the meeting, Zareh Sinanyan, characterising the Armenian community of Cyprus, said it is a community that enjoys the full support of the state, is Armenian-speaking, and is exceptionally attached to its identity.

On the penultimate day of the visit, the High Commissioner, Zareh Sinanyan, visited the Armenian «Narek» school, toured it accompanied by the director, Vera Tamrazian, and familiarised himself with the educational institution’s conditions and programs.

Zareh Sinanyan highly appreciated the school’s role in the life of the community and its part in the preservation of Armenian identity. Subsequently, the Commissioner also visited the Holy Mother of God Church and the memorial dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide, located in the churchyard.

On the last day of the working visit, the High Commissioner, Zareh Sinanyan, visited the Melkonian educational institution, toured it and familiarised himself with the school’s current status. Throughout the entire tour, the feeling prevailed that however impressive the school’s grounds and buildings are in their size and grandeur, they are equally sad and mysterious in their emptiness. For a moment, even like a dream, the classrooms and playground, the auditorium and dormitories were pictured with life, with lively students and teachers. Zareh Sinanyan noted that it is painful that the corridors of Melkonian have been empty, and the classrooms vacant, since 2005, and people are waiting with bated breath for the resolution of the issue.
