The European Union will not ban imports of energy carriers from Russia, said EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
He made this statement after Washington announced new sanctions against Moscow, including a ban on the supply of energy sources.
“We will not ban the import of Russian energy carriers; we are not following Biden on this issue,” Borrell said.
As the head of European diplomacy stressed, in the EU they are convinced that “one cannot rely on” the current partner, and therefore they are seeking alternative sources of gas supply. Moscow has repeatedly emphasized that it has always fulfilled its obligations under contracts, and European consumers have also spoken about this.
Joe Biden announced that Washington has imposed a ban on the import of energy carriers from Russia. He noted that this decision was made in light of the situation created in Ukraine, and that both parties in Congress supported him.
