White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany, during her daily briefing on July 6, referred to the Armenian Genocide Memorial, noting that it had fallen victim to vandalism. According to Armenpress, the White House’s official website indicates that she spoke about the consequences of the destruction of monuments by protesters in the country. The Press Secretary stated that there seems to be a zero understanding of history when they defile the statues of Matthias Baldwin, John Whittier, and Ulysses S. Grant.
“Apparently there is a lack of understanding and knowledge of history when the Armenian Genocide Memorial, which commemorates the victims and captives of crimes against humanity, is subjected to desecration,” said the Press Secretary, apparently referring to the recent desecration of the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Colorado.
The monument had been defaced with paint by vandals last month during social justice protests, along with other monuments located there.
Aram Hambaryan, Executive Director of the Armenian National Committee of America, noted that we may be witnessing the first steps in this statement toward the universal recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
